More About Karen

My parenting journey began in the spring of 2006 when our first daughter was born. Our firstborn didn’t enter this world like just any baby though; she chose to make a grand entrance and was born in our little house that was at the end of a 1.5 km laneway, in a rural town with only my husband present to catch her. Life has continued on with gusto since that time, and has brought many an adventure! We have had two more daughters since then (two more homebirths… this time with our midwife present) which makes my husband seriously outnumbered. We are blessed to have such a beautiful family, but it doesn’t come without its challenges. We rely on God’s strength to get us through the tough times, and we’re learning to be thankful regardless of our circumstances.
In my role as wife and mother I have gone from reluctant at times and unsure at other times, to confident and accepting. I have had days where I felt like I wasn’t making enough of an impact in the world while I spent the day nursing my babies, cooking, cleaning, and changing cloth diapers. I now look at my days as pivotal in providing a calm, peaceful, tidy, and FUN haven for my family to spend our days together as our girls quickly grow into young women. I now realize how much of an impact I’m making as I help to form our girls into women of God who go out and impact our world. What an enormous responsibility this is! What a privilege.
Our family first strives to be obedient to Christ and what he is calling us to do as His followers. This includes living simply, and being stewards of all the resources that God has seen fit to bless us with; it includes going out and making disciples; it also includes using the talents that God has given us. In our family, we have been given lots of creativity! We love to be creative and to use our creativity in functional, fun, and unique ways that we will share with you.
My Inspired Family is a place where we will share ideas about faith, family life, natural parenting, simple living, and being creative. My hope is that you will be encouraged as you journey on in life through the days that seem insignificant, and in the days that seem monumental. My hope is that you will find joy in the little things, and that you will realize the potential you have to make an impact as you live out a life that is inspired by God. May you also be an Inspired Family.
